Austin Electronics Recycling: Drop-Off and Home Pickup

Where to take computers, TVs, and phones in Austin, plus how curbside customers can schedule a pickup.

Austin electronics recycling at the drop-off

Austin electronics recycling does not belong in the blue cart or the trash. Computers, phones, printers, televisions, and small appliances are accepted at the Recycle and Reuse Center. You need an appointment. Book it on the city site or in the Austin Recycles app.

The center lists computers, cell phones and chargers, printers, televisions, microwaves, stoves, washers, dryers, and lamps. CDs and DVDs can go too if you throw away the jewel case. Air conditioners and water heaters are also on the accepted list. Confirm your item with the city’s What Do I Do With tool before you drive.

Austin electronics recycling at that center is free for Austin and Travis County residents, except tires. Bring a photo ID and a recent utility bill if staff ask you to show you live in the area. People from outside that area pay a fee.

Austin electronics recycling from the curb

Curbside customers can ask for austin electronics recycling at home through on-demand bulk collection. The city describes up to three bulk collections a year, and electronics are part of that service. Schedule in the Austin Recycles app, online, or by calling 3-1-1 (512-974-2000).

Do not set a television out on an ordinary trash day and hope the truck takes it. Use the appointment. Large metal appliances are also covered in Austin bulk item pickup.

Batteries inside a device should come out when you can do that safely. Loose batteries use Austin battery recycling, not the electronics pile.

Read the accepted list on the Recycle and Reuse Center page. Stores sometimes take phones and cords, but the city center is the reliable option for a television or a printer.
